Mandú e Julião formed in 1993 in Salvador, Bahia, where both members were born. Mandú is Antônio Carlos Santos de Jesus, and Julião is Julião Jorge Moreira. They worked as guitarists and singers, releasing their debut album 'Um Só Destino' in 1997.
That album included 'Destino Cruel,' which became a radio hit and brought them national attention. They followed it with albums like 'Época de Mudança' in 1999 and 'Novo Tempo' in 2003. Other songs in their catalog include 'Não Sou Culpado' and 'Saudação Aos Gaúchos.'
Mandú struggled with drug addiction at one point, with Julião supporting him through it. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for social commentary, particularly 'Destino Cruel' for its depiction of poverty and violence. The duo toured Brazil and internationally, and their music has appeared in television and films.
