Mandy B. Blue formed in 1999 when vocalist Masami Miyamoto (Mandy) met guitarist Takayuki Shimada (Blue). Their early sound mixed rock, pop, and traditional Japanese elements, which drew some criticism at first. They kept playing live shows and built a following that way.
In 2002, they released their debut album 'Melody,' and its title track became a hit. Their song '心の強さ! (Kokoro no tsuyosa!)' is probably their best-known work. The band's lineup has included bassist Shinji Ukai, drummer Takahiro Sakurai, and keyboardist Masaki Matsumura at various points.
Their music has appeared in anime and drama series, and they've worked with composer Joe Hisaishi and singer Yumi Matsutoya. In 2006, they performed at a political rally for a conservative candidate, which stirred up some debate about musicians and politics.
