Manny Charlton was a Scottish guitarist who co-founded the rock band Nazareth in 1968. He played lead guitar and contributed vocals for the group during their early years. Their 1973 album "Razamanaz" included the track "Animals," which became a significant rock radio staple.
Charlton's guitar work helped define Nazareth's sound through the 1970s. He remained with the band for many years, also releasing some solo material. In 1990, a throat cancer diagnosis and subsequent laryngectomy ended his singing career, though he continued to play guitar.
He stayed involved with Nazareth off and on before eventually leaving the group. Charlton died in 2022.
