Mano formed in Lisbon in the early 2000s, with David Fonseca and Pedro Tatanka as founding members. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2004, and its lead single "Sorte a Minha" became a hit in Portugal. The song's melody and Tatanka's vocals gave the band some immediate recognition.
They followed up with albums like "Mar" in 2006 and "Gente" in 2008. Other songs like "Aonde Você For" and "Brinde À Vida" also found an audience. In 2010, Tatanka left the band, which led to some lineup changes and speculation among fans.
Some of their lyrics, particularly in songs like "Palavras ao Vento," drew criticism for what some heard as political commentary. The band kept recording and performing, but that early period with Tatanka remains what many listeners remember.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
