Manuel Meaños came up in the 1960s, first as a solo performer and then with his band Los Albas. They put out "Coqueta" in 1968, and that song became his calling card. It's a story about unattainable love, and its melody stuck with people.
He was from Alicante, born in 1944. His career had its complications. In 1972, he was arrested for possession of illegal substances, which affected his public image. He kept making music through the 1970s and '80s, putting out albums like "El Canto del Gallo" in 1971 and "Treinta Años" in 1979. Other songs in his catalog include "De Puro Guapo," "Divino Vals," and "Mentiras de Amor."
Manuel Meaños died in 2018. The band Los Albas included José Antonio García on guitar, Miguel Ángel González on bass, and Juan José Sánchez on drums.
