Manuel Romero was an Argentine singer and composer born in 1891. He wrote about the working-class neighborhoods on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, places often called the arrabales. Songs like 'Aquel Tapado de Armiño' and 'Buenos Aires' came from that world.
In 1926, he wrote 'El Taita del Arrabal,' a tango that became well-known for its portrayal of life in those suburbs. He also worked with other musicians, including Francisco Canaro and Carlos Gardel. His orchestra included various players from that era.
Some of his material touched on social themes, which occasionally drew attention. It later became one of the more familiar tangos.
