Maracujazz formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2004 with Marcos Sacramento on bass, Lui Coimbra on guitar, and Marcos Paulo on drums. Vocalist Laila Garin joined soon after, completing the lineup. Their first album came out in 2006, followed by three more over the next decade, including 2012's 'Inestimável' which shares its name with one of their best-known songs.
Their music pulls from jazz and Brazilian styles like bossa nova, though some listeners have questioned how those elements fit together. The band kept working regardless, putting out 'Nação Maracujazz' in 2009 and a tenth-anniversary collection in 2016. Another track people remember is 'Se o mundo rodasse ao contrário'.
Sacramento's basslines and Coimbra's guitar work give their recordings a particular texture, with Garin's voice carrying the melodies.
