Marcello Benny formed in 2005 when singer Marcello Melo and guitarist Benny Martinez started playing together in Rio de Janeiro. Their early sound mixed samba and reggae with electronic touches, which caught some attention locally. The song "Dono" came out in 2010 and became their breakthrough, topping charts in Brazil and getting radio play internationally.
Their debut album "Caminho de Volta" arrived in 2012, followed by "Destino" in 2014 and "Sonhos" in 2018. These records showed them working with pop and rock elements alongside their Brazilian roots. Other songs like "Esperança" and "Raras Pedras" have remained part of their set.
In 2013, the band dealt with a legal dispute when a former member claimed songwriting rights to "Dono." The case was settled out of court. The group's lineup has included drummer Lucas Silveira alongside the founding duo.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
