Marcelo Nova formed the band Camisa de Vênus in 1979, drawing from hard rock and Brazilian rhythms. Their debut album 'Nada por Nada' came out in 1980, featuring the song 'Hoje' that became a staple of Brazilian rock. The band broke up in 1983, which led Nova to start releasing solo material.
Nova put out several solo albums in the 1980s, including 'Marcelo Nova' in 1984 and 'Velocidade da Luz' in 1985. Songs like 'Carpinteiro do Universo' and 'A Balada do Perdedor' show his range as a writer, touching on everything from social observation to personal reflection. Camisa de Vênus reunited in 1995 for a tour and new recordings.
He still performs with the band, which currently includes guitarist Robério França, bassist Bina, and drummer Cézar Oliveira. In 2011, Nova received Brazil's Order of Cultural Merit.
