Marcelo Papait came up in Rio de Janeiro during the 1970s, a time when the city's samba and funk were thick in the air. He put out his first album in 2003, but it was the song "Será Que Rola?" a couple years later that really caught on. The track had a way of sticking with people, its rhythm pulling from those Brazilian traditions he grew up with.
He kept recording after that, with albums like "DNA" in 2007 and "Guerreiros da Luz" in 2010. Other songs like "Riquinho de Mentira" and "Segredo Total" show the same ear for a groove. His music has often featured other players, with Adriano Galvão on guitar and Rafael Rocha on bass appearing in his band at different times.
Papait has worked with other artists too, including a feature with Naiara Azevedo on "Voltando À Ativa." He's never been one to shy away from saying what he thinks, which has sometimes put him in the middle of things. His sound is just his own mix of what he heard coming up in Rio.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
