Marcelo Quintanilha came up in Rio de Janeiro during the 1950s. His music pulled from samba, rock, and bossa nova, which gave his work an eclectic feel from the start.
In the early 1980s, he put out his self-titled debut album. The track "Cadê Xoxó" from that record caught on and became something of an anthem. Its playful lyrics about looking for someone resonated with listeners.
He kept making albums through the '80s and '90s, like "Poesia do Cotidiano" in 1984 and "Flor do Asfalto" in 1988. Other songs like "Quero Te Ver de Verde" and "Encruzilhada" show the range of his output. His lyrics sometimes touched on themes that drew criticism, but he maintained a following.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
