Marcelo Rios was born in Recife in 1962. He formed his first band, Os Novos Baianos, with Baby Consuelo and Moraes Moreira, mixing traditional Brazilian sounds with psychedelic rock. Their 1975 album 'Acabou Chorare' included 'Princesa do Norte,' which became a national hit.
That song, along with others like 'Vagalume' and 'A canção que não nasceu,' established Rios as a songwriter with a particular feel for romantic ballads. He released solo albums like 'Guitarra Brasileira' and 'Dom Quixote' in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
