Marco Mares is a vocalist and songwriter from Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, who leads the band Marco Mares y la Sonoramanía. He formed the group in 2013, and they started out playing local events. Their sound pulls from norteño and banda traditions, with the accordion and polka rhythms common in that region.
In 2016, the band put out 'Flaquita,' a single that caught on quickly in Mexico. That song, along with others like 'La Sanadora' and 'Alboroto,' helped build their audience. They've released a few albums since, including 'El Son de México' in 2014 and 'El Patrón de la Banda' in 2018.
There was a legal dispute with a former label in 2018 over music rights, which got sorted out. The band has kept going, with Mares as the frontman.
