Marco Santini

Marco Santini started writing and performing songs in São Paulo, where he was born in 1962. His debut album 'Vôo Livre' came out in 1993, but it was the 1997 song 'Desigualdade Bruta' that really connected with listeners. That track, along with others like 'Enlatados No Sistema' and 'Jesus Cristo,' often dealt directly with social issues in Brazil.

His music pulls from samba and bossa nova, but there's a straightforward, folk-driven quality to it that keeps the focus on the words. The lyrics tend to be direct, addressing inequality and other problems without much ornamentation. He's been performing since the early 1990s, and that consistent, plain-spoken approach has been his main feature.

Santini's work has drawn criticism at times for being too political, but he's kept at it. The songs aren't really built for massive pop crossover; they're more like conversations set to music, meant to be heard in a certain way.
