Marcos e Diego

Marcos e Diego formed in Campo Grande in the mid-1990s. The duo, made up of Marcos Paulo de Almeida and Diego Pereira de Carvalho, started out playing local bars and festivals. They had a breakthrough in 1998 with the single "Bão Bagarai," a song about a carefree lifestyle that caught on across Brazil. Another track people remember is "Capa de Revista."

Their music worked within sertanejo, a Brazilian country style, but they brought in some modern pop touches. In 2003, there was some noise about plagiarism accusations over a song called "Não Tem Coração," though the details never became a major public story. They kept recording and performing for about a decade after their initial success.

Marcos handled most of the lead vocals and songwriting, while Diego played guitar and sang backup. They didn't share much about their lives outside of music, which kept the focus on the songs. The duo's run was relatively compact, but "Bão Bagarai" remains a recognizable track from that period in Brazilian popular music.
