Archive material and source history
Marcos Roberto da Cruz was born in 1957 in Cajamar, a small town in Brazil. He started singing in church as a young man and joined the gospel group Os Arrependidos in 1982, where he developed his voice before going solo.
In 1995, he released his debut album 'Meu Nome É Jeová,' which included the title track that became his most recognizable song. The lyrics of 'Meu Nome É Jeová' focused on using the name Jehovah for God, which drew some criticism from certain Christian circles at the time. Despite that, the song found a wide audience in Brazilian gospel music.
He followed that album with others like 'O Poderoso Nome de Jesus' in 1997 and 'Jesus, o Verdadeiro Amigo' in 1999. Another song, 'Tu És Santo,' also appears among his recorded work.
