Marea formed in Pamplona in 1997 with a lineup that's stayed consistent: Kutxi Romero on vocals and rhythm guitar, Alén Ayerdi on lead guitar, David Díaz on bass, and Eduardo Beaumont on drums. Their early years involved some financial struggles, but they built a following through live shows. They've released nine studio albums, starting with 'La Patera' in 1999 and including titles like '28.000 Puñaladas' and 'El Azogue'.
Their song 'Corazon De Mimbre' became something of a classic, and other tracks like 'La Luna Me Sabe A Poco' and 'Que Se Joda El Viento' show their style. Romero's voice and lyrics give the band its character, with a sound that mixes rock grit and folk touches.
Some of their lyrics have drawn criticism, like the song 'El Plan' which got pushback from political groups. They've kept making music through that, with albums coming out roughly every few years into the late 2010s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
