Maria Eugenia

Maria Eugenia is a Brazilian singer-songwriter who first gained attention in the mid-1980s. Her debut album, also called 'Companheiro,' came out in 1985, and its title track became her most recognizable song. She has roots in São Paulo and was influenced by Bossa Nova and MPB, the broad category of Brazilian popular music.

Her work includes songs like 'Amor de Menino,' 'Folia da Estrela-Guia,' and 'Parece.' Over time she recorded albums such as 'Segredos' in 1987, a self-titled release in 1991, and 'Luz e Sombra' in 1994. She has worked with musicians including guitarist Celso Fonseca and keyboardist Luiz Cláudio Ramos.

In the 1980s, some of her lyrics and public statements drew criticism in what was then a fairly conservative music industry. She kept writing and performing, with later albums like 'Canções de Amor' appearing in 2000. Her songs, including 'Quem Ama Perdoa' and 'Retratos do Brasil,' have remained in circulation on Brazilian radio and playlists.
