Mariachi Cobre formed in the early 1960s in the Huasteca region of Mexico, taking their name from the copper mining that was central to their hometown. The group was led by violinist José Mora. Their 1975 song 'Las 3 Huastecas' became particularly well-known, helping establish their presence.
Their approach to mariachi music sometimes drew criticism from traditionalists who felt they blended too many outside influences into the form. The group maintained their direction regardless, continuing to perform and record for decades. They released albums like 'El Violinista' in 1978 and 'México Mágico' in 1995.
Other members over time included Félix Martínez on trumpet, Rubén Martínez on vihuela, Enrique Ramírez on guitarron, and Aarón Martínez on guitar. They marked their 50th anniversary with a 2016 release called 'Celebrando 50 Años'.
