Background notes

Archive material and source history

Mariano e Caçula were a Brazilian duo who recorded in the 1970s and 1980s. They came from the sertão region and worked with the Chantecler label. Their debut album was called "Chantecler 16."

Their most well-known song is "Jorginho do Sertão," a ballad about a rancher's love story. It appeared on that first album and became popular nationally. They put out other records like "Nascemos para Cantar" in 1975 and "O Menino do Sertão" in 1979.

In 1982, they dealt with a plagiarism accusation over a song called "Ainda Ontem Chorei de Saudade." They defended themselves against it. Their music drew from sertanejo styles common in rural Brazil.
