Mariano Mores

Mariano Mores was born in Buenos Aires in 1918 and grew up with tango around him. He started as a pianist and composer, taking cues from earlier figures like Carlos Gardel and Aníbal Troilo. By the 1940s he had his own orchestra, and in 1944 he wrote "Cristal," a sentimental ballad that became one of his most recognizable pieces.

Mores wrote hundreds of songs, including "Cafetín de Buenos Aires," "Cuartito Azul," and "En Esta Tarde Gris." Some traditionalists criticized him for bringing jazz and classical touches into his arrangements, but he kept working in his own way. His orchestra included bandoneon players like Juan Carlos Bidaurre and Eduardo Rovira, along with violinists such as Osvaldo Piro.

He stayed active for decades, composing and performing until his death in 2016. Songs like "Frente al Mar" and "Taquito Militar" remain staples in tango repertoires, and his piano style left a clear mark on how the genre developed in the mid‑20th century.
