Mário Jr. e Alex formed in 1994 when Mário Júnior and Alex Alves met at a music festival in Maringá, Paraná. They started playing bars and small venues, and by 1996 they'd signed with PolyGram and released their self-titled debut album. That record included 'Não Adianta Chorar,' which became their breakout hit.
In 1999, Alex was seriously injured in a car accident that forced the duo to cancel shows. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups, but they kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like 'Loucura de Amor' in 2000 and 'Coração Aberto' in 2002.
They released ten studio albums between 1996 and 2013, with 'Não Adianta Chorar' remaining their most recognizable song. Mário Júnior handled vocals and guitar, while Alex Alves sang and played bass.
