Markus Krunegård was born in 1979 in Uppsala, Sweden. He started writing and performing his own songs as a teenager, influenced by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and John Prine. In 2002 he released his debut album 'Markusevangeliet,' which included the song 'Åh Uppsala.' That track got some attention and helped establish him in Swedish music.
He's put out several albums since then, including 'Du är som en bil utan bromsar' in 2005, 'Ett nytt land' in 2008, and 'Lev nu, dö sen' in 2012. Other songs like 'Askan Är Den Bästa Jorden' and 'Barn Från Rödastan' appear among his most recognized work. He's performed live with musicians including Torbjörn Zetterberg on bass and Erik Jonasson on drums.
In 2005 his song 'Älskar dig' drew some criticism for how it portrayed women. More recently, in 2019, he faced accusations of sexual misconduct, which he denied. His music often deals with love, loss, and personal struggles, and 'Åh Uppsala' has become something of an unofficial anthem for Uppsala.
