Marleen formed in Berlin in the early 2010s around singer Sarah Farina, guitarist Jakob Hübschmann, and drummer Martin Hausen. Their sound was often described as ethereal and introspective, though it never settled neatly into one genre. They put out their first single, 'Der Kim Song,' in 2015, and it became their best-known track. Other songs from that period include 'Du Nervst' and 'Renn Um Dein Leben.'
Their debut album, 'Immer weiter,' came out in 2016. They followed it with 'Hinter dem Meer' in 2018 and 'Am Ende des Tages' in 2020. Farina wrote the lyrics, which tended to be personal and direct, sometimes with a sharp edge, as in 'Fuck Of Euch' or 'Ich-hasse-Lisa-Song.' The band's approach drew attention, both positive and critical, for being unconventional.
