The title track became known for its connection to the historical quilombola leader Yanga, who escaped slavery and established a free settlement.
Other songs like 'Filho' and 'Salane' appear in her catalog alongside 'Hosi Yanga.' She was born Marllen de Souza Oliveira in 1964 in Salvador, Brazil, and grew up in a predominantly Black neighborhood there.
