Marquesa

Marquesa formed in 2005 as a trio of friends: Mariana Aydar, Thiago Pethit, and Kassin. They shared an interest in Brazilian bossa nova, folk, and electronic music, which shaped their sound from the start. Their debut album came out in 2007, simply titled 'Marquesa,' and established their ethereal approach. A song like 'De Olhos Fechados' shows their way with a haunting, melodic line.

Their second album, 'Plural,' arrived in 2010 and leaned into more experimental and electronic elements. By 2013, they released 'Marquesa Trio,' which was described as a return to acoustic roots with intimate versions of their songs. Other tracks in their catalog, such as 'Domingo de Agosto' and 'Simples vida simples,' reflect their range within a generally delicate, lyrical style.

In 2009, the band faced a plagiarism accusation over a melody, which they defended against legally. The episode was a notable challenge but didn't stop their work. Marquesa's music, built around Aydar's expressive vocals, Pethit's guitar and songwriting, and Kassin's multi-instrumental and electronic touches, found an audience drawn to its blend of traditional Brazilian influences and contemporary arrangements.
