Marquinho Pixadão was born Marco Antônio dos Santos Silva in Bayeux, Paraíba. He grew up hearing the rhythms of forró around him, and eventually formed a band in the early 2000s that took his name. The group played a version of forró that mixed in some pop and electronic touches.
In 2005, the song 'Então Vai' became a national hit for him. It topped charts and made him widely known. The band released several albums in the years that followed, including 'Sem Você Não Dá' in 2006 and 'Na Balada do Marquinho' in 2007.
Some critics felt his approach to forró was too commercial and strayed from the genre's traditional sound. He maintained that music should be able to change.
