Mars Red Sky

Mars Red Sky formed in Bordeaux in 2007 with Julien Pras on guitar, Jimmy Kinast on bass, and Matthieu Gazeau on drums. Their first album came out in 2011, simply called 'Mars Red Sky,' which set up the atmospheric, drifting sound they've kept working with. They followed it with 'Stranded' in 2015 and 'The Task Eternal' in 2018.

A track from that last album, 'Strong Reflection,' got some attention as a kind of slow-burn anthem. Their music tends to pull from post-rock and ambient electronica, creating these expansive, patient pieces that feel like they're built for headphones. Other songs like 'Alien Grounds' and 'Circles' follow a similar pattern, layered guitars, steady rhythms, and a mood that's more about texture than hooks.

In 2016 they did some soundtrack work for Gaspar Noé's film 'Love,' which brought them a different sort of notice. They haven't really chased a pop format, sticking instead to these drawn-out, almost meditative compositions that avoid verse-chorus structures. It's the kind of music that unfolds slowly, and they've been consistent about that approach across their records.
