Marsha Hunt was a band formed in the early 1960s, with Marsha Hunt herself on lead vocals and songwriting. They put out a debut album called 'The Marsha Hunt Sessions' that had a raw, energetic feel. The group included guitarist Michael Knott, bassist Robert 'Bobby' Hunt, and drummer Marlyn Hunt.
Their 1968 single 'Black Flower' became their most recognizable track. It had a haunting quality that stuck with listeners, and another song from around that time, 'Desdemona,' showed a similar atmospheric approach. The band released several more albums through the early 1970s, like 'Marsha Hunt' in 1969 and 'A Sea of Glass' in 1972.
Marsha Hunt disbanded in 1972. Their music, particularly songs like 'Black Flower,' found an audience among listeners drawn to that late-1960s psychedelic folk-rock sound.
