Their early work, like the debut album 'Of Skins and Heart,' had a particular atmospheric quality that drew from post-punk. The band's 1988 album 'Starfish' included the single 'Under the Milky Way,' which became their most recognizable song.
Willson-Piper left The Church in 1991. During that time he worked on solo material, including the 1997 album '1929 Vintage Wine.' He rejoined the band in 2000.
