Mary's Band formed in Campbellsville, Kentucky in 1956. The group included Patty Hill, Mildred J. Hill, Harry R. Jefferson, and sisters Edna Hill and Virginia Hill. Patty and Mildred Hill had written the melody for what would become "Happy Birthday" back in 1893 as a classroom greeting song.
Their recording of "Happy Birthday" came out in 1935, though there was some dispute about the song's authorship that eventually led to it being declared public domain. The band also released "Good Morning to All" that same year. Their song "It's a Small World (After All)" appeared in 1964.
Beyond those familiar tunes, Mary's Band recorded other material like "Minha mãe tá louca," "Abagabalô," and "Carina." Their catalog includes songs with titles ranging from "Amanhã Não Vai Amanhecer" to "Coliforme fecal" and "Gatinho."
