Massive Carnage formed in 1999 with guitarist and vocalist John Butcher and bassist Jake Morton. Their debut album that year was called The Urge of Kill, which gave them a song of the same name. The band's lineup included drummer Steve Harris until 2007, when Mike Jones took over on drums.
They put out albums like Butchered Remains in 2002, Scum of the Earth in 2005, Death Symphony in 2008, and Bloodbath in 2011. Their music leaned into fast tempos, heavy guitar work, and harsh vocals, with lyrics that often dealt with violent or dark themes.
Some of their material drew criticism for its content, but they maintained a following in metal circles. The group kept recording and playing through the 2000s and into the 2010s.
