Mateus e Rafael were a Brazilian duo who recorded in the late 1970s and 1980s. Their song "Orgulho" from 1978 became particularly well-known in their home state of Bahia, where it's sometimes played at local events. They also recorded "Vida de Universitário."
Their album "Orgulho" came out in 1978, followed by others like "Semente do Sol" in 1982 and "Sai da Frente" in 1985. The pair consisted of vocalist Mateus Aleluia and guitarist Rafael Barreto.
Some of their lyrics, including those in "Orgulho," were reportedly subject to censorship during Brazil's military government period. Their music is sometimes associated with the development of axé, a style that mixes African rhythms with contemporary Brazilian sounds.
