Matisse formed in 2014 when three music students at Berklee College of Music, Melisa Lozano, Pablo Preciado, and Román Torres, started playing together. They released their debut EP 'Sube' in 2016, which introduced their pop sound with folk and acoustic touches. Their cover of 'Eres Tú' featuring Reik became a hit, reaching the top of Latin music charts.

They followed with several releases including the full album 'Sube' in 2017, the EP 'Por Tu Bien' in 2018, and the album 'Como lo Hice Yo' in 2019. Other songs like 'Más Que Amigos' and 'Acuérdate de Mí' show their style of layered vocals and melodic pop arrangements.

In 2019, they faced accusations of plagiarism for their song 'Niña Sola,' which they said was inspired by another composition but not intentionally copied. They kept releasing music, putting out the EP 'Tres' in 2021 and a self-titled album in 2022.
