Matrizsertaneja formed in 2014 in Conceição das Crioulas, a small town in Minas Gerais. The duo consists of Rafael Machado on vocals and guitar and Lucas Pereira on vocals and bass, childhood friends who started playing music together.
Their debut single "Lembranças de Amor" came out in 2018 and found an audience with its straightforward emotional pull. The song's success led to a deal with Universal Music.
They've kept a fairly low profile since then, working within the sertanejo tradition without much of the industry fanfare that sometimes accompanies Brazilian country music acts.
