Matt Monro

Matt Monro was born Terrence Edward Parsons in London in 1930. He started out as a vocalist for the BBC in the early 1950s before launching his solo career. His big break came in 1964 when he recorded the theme song for the film 'Born Free,' which became one of his signature tracks.

Monro had a smooth, clear voice that worked well with romantic ballads and film themes. He also recorded 'From Russia With Love' for the James Bond film of the same name, and songs like 'Walk Away' and 'The Music Played' became popular standards in his repertoire. His style leaned toward traditional pop with some jazz influence.

He continued performing and recording through the 1960s and 1970s, though he faced some personal difficulties in later years. Matt Monro died in 1985 at age 54. His recordings, particularly those film themes, have remained in circulation long after his death.
