Editor's note

M. Pokora, from Popstars to French pop mainstay

A French singer who turned a TV talent show start into a durable pop career.

For a sense of his sound, check out Entre Parenthèses or Si Tu Pars. They're straightforward, melodic French pop that gets the job done.

He's one of those French pop figures who just keeps showing up. The single Tombé from his 2008 album MP3 became a hit across Europe, and songs like Entre Parenthèses have stayed in rotation. He's been part of the soundtrack for a certain generation of French listeners.

Matthieu Tota first appeared on the French television talent show Popstars in 2003 as part of the group Linkup. After that group disbanded, he started a solo career under the name M. Pokora. His second album, Player, released in 2006, brought him mainstream attention in France.
