Matthew McAnuff grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, the son of reggae singer Winston McAnuff. He started out playing in his father's backing band, the Ruff Cutt Band, in the early 1990s.
His debut album 'Forward' came out in 1999 and included the song 'Be Careful,' which became his best-known track. The album drew some attention for its songwriting, though there were questions at the time about whether the melody of 'Be Careful' resembled an older Bunny Rugs tune.
He kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like 'Pressure,' 'Purpose,' and 'Real.'
