Max Raptor is a trio from Los Angeles with Jason Lytle on lead vocals and guitar, Aaron Burtch on bass, and Joey Waronker on drums. They put out their first album, Variations on a Theme, in 2001. Their 2004 record The Greatest included the song "Carolina."
In 2005, the band dealt with some legal trouble over the rights to their music. They kept working after that, releasing The Sun and the Sea in 2007 and Gold Called Nevada in 2010. Their 2014 album Stranger Shores had a more upbeat sound than some of their earlier material.
"Carolina" and "The King is Dead" are among their better-known tracks. The group's music tends toward atmospheric arrangements with introspective lyrics.
