They met in Rio de Janeiro and were influenced by Brazilian samba as well as American R&B and artists like Stevie Wonder, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso.
Their debut album was also called "Batidas do Coração." They released other albums including "Ritmo do Amor," "Canções do Coração," and "Alma Brasileira." Some in the music industry at the time found their approach too experimental.
