Maylene and the Sons of Disaster formed in Birmingham, Alabama in 2004. Their sound pulled from Southern rock and hardcore, with songs like 'Listen Close' and 'Dry The River' showing how they worked those elements together.

They put out their first album in 2005, followed by 'II' in 2007 and 'III' in 2009. The band's lineup included Dallas Taylor on vocals and guitar, Roman Haviland on guitar, Josh Conselyea on bass, and Jake Duncan on drums.

By 2012 they had released 'IV', and an EP called 'Sad Lemons' came out in 2014. Their music sometimes drew criticism for its content, and personal struggles within the band occasionally surfaced in their work.
