Mayra Itaborahy's music draws from the sounds of Brazil's Sertão region, where she grew up. Her 2005 debut album 'Chuva No Sertão' gave her a national audience, with the title track becoming particularly well-known. Other songs like 'Braços de Morfeu' and 'Depois Não Reclama' show her connection to the area's musical traditions.

She works with a small group of musicians including João Paulo on accordion and Zé de Mane on bass. Their arrangements tend to be straightforward, built around her voice and guitar.
