Maysha Rayérie formed in Oakland in 2009 around vocalist Maysha Ray, guitarist Aaron Moorhead, bassist Kevin Ray, drummer Yalek Jones, and keyboardist Marcus Shelby. They've put out four albums, starting with their self-titled debut in 2013 and following up with 'The Journey' in 2016, 'F.A.M.O.S.A.' in 2019, and 'Evolution' in 2022.
The 2019 album 'F.A.M.O.S.A.' gave them a wider audience, with the title track 'Famosa' getting attention. The band's sound pulls from rhythm and blues, soul, gospel, and jazz, though they've kept a fairly low profile in terms of mainstream coverage.
In 2015, Maysha Ray was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer but continued working through treatment. A copyright infringement lawsuit came up in 2020, but it was dismissed. The group has kept recording since, with their most recent album arriving in 2022.
