MC B.O

MC B.O. came out of Rio de Janeiro's favelas in the late 1990s. The group, led by Bruno de Oliveira, built a following with raw lyrics and heavy beats that spoke directly to life in those neighborhoods. Their debut album was called 'Cai No Mundo'.

Their music often dealt with the realities of the streets, which drew criticism from some quarters. They kept at it, performing for crowds that were sometimes divided over their message. The group included members like Andrezinho and DJ Rogerinho alongside Oliveira.

Later tracks like 'Zika da Balada' and 'Gandaia' kept their sound in circulation. They drew from samba and hip-hop, but the through-line was always that direct, unfiltered approach to the stories they wanted to tell.
