MC Kautry

MC Kautry came up in Rio de Janeiro's Cidade de Deus neighborhood, where funk carioca provided a soundtrack for the streets he knew. He started rapping as a teenager, taking cues from local acts like Bonde do Tigrão and MC Catra. His lyrics often dealt with the realities of poverty and violence, drawn from what he saw around him.

In 2012 he put out his debut album, 'Privado da Liberdade,' which included the title track that became a hit. The song addressed incarceration and connected with listeners across Brazil. He works with a crew that includes DJ Gui on production and MC Neném on backing vocals, mixing funk carioca with rap and trap elements.

Kautry's music has faced criticism for its explicit content, and in 2015 he was arrested on drug charges. He's used his platform to talk about social justice issues affecting favela communities. Later albums like 'Proibidão do Gigante' and 'Lei da Selva' kept building his audience with the same raw, neighborhood-focused sound.
