MC Medellín

MC Medellín came out of the Belén neighborhood in Medellín, Colombia, with a sound built around reggaeton rhythms. The group included Donny G, Mañas, DJ Grego, and El Indis. Their debut album 'La Nueva Era' arrived in 2011, followed by 'El Origen' and 'El Concepto'.

Their track 'BENZ' from 2015 became a local anthem, one of those songs that just seemed to be everywhere for a while. It sits alongside other tracks like 'Leão Demais,' 'Marcha No Mundo,' and 'Calma' in their catalog. The music often drew from the textures of city life in Colombia, which sometimes put them at odds with critics who found the content too raw.

There were personal troubles too, like when Donny G faced drug possession charges. They made music that connected in neighborhoods like the one they came from, for better or worse.
