MC Paulin da Capital

MC Paulin da Capital came up in the Complexo do Alemão, one of Rio de Janeiro's sprawling favelas. He started rapping around age 15, writing about what he saw around him. His music falls into the funk carioca style, a sound that's been the local soundtrack for a long time.

His songs often touch on life in the favelas, which has sometimes drawn criticism from authorities who see it as glorifying violence. Paulin has generally shrugged that off, saying he's just describing the reality he knows. He's worked with other artists from the same scene, like MC Lipi, MC Cabelinho, and DJ GM on tracks such as "QUEBRADAS."

Some of his other songs include "Tiger Triumph" with MC Lemos and "Quem Me Protege Não Dorme" with L7NNON and Papatinho. He put out albums like "Favelado Fala" in 2004 and "Quebradas" more recently in 2023.
