MC Pretin came out of São Paulo's streets, making funk carioca that sometimes got them into trouble. Their song 'Não Aproveitou!' came out in 2016, and they put out 'Favela Vive 3' in 2018 and 'Pretin tá Chegando' in 2020. The music could be blunt about life in marginalized neighborhoods, and that directness drew criticism along with listeners.
They worked with DJ Danda and DJ Yuri on turntables, and MC Bin Laden would sometimes show up on vocals. The sound moved between traditional funk, trap, and hip-hop without settling into one lane. People who liked them heard their own frustrations in the lyrics, even when the language or themes made others uncomfortable.
There were legal issues over copyright and defamation claims at points. They kept going anyway, playing shows and putting out tracks that didn't soften the edges. For a certain crowd in Brazil, that refusal to clean things up felt like a kind of honesty.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
