Mc Yoshi

MC Yoshi came up in Guaianases, a neighborhood in São Paulo, and started rhyming at local parties as a teenager. He was part of the early 2000s wave of Funk Paulista, a São Paulo take on Brazilian funk that often carried a rougher, more direct sound.

His most recognizable track is probably "Mundo Verde," a 2011 collaboration with MC Pet Daleste. The song imagines a world without violence, and it connected with listeners enough to become something of an anthem. He worked with Daleste on other songs too, like "Gosto Mais do Que Lasanha."

Yoshi's lyrics sometimes drew criticism, with accusations of homophobia and misogyny coming up around his work. He kept making music through that, though the details of how he navigated it aren't really part of the public record.
