Medina Azahara formed in Córdoba, Andalusia in the early 1980s. The band took its name from the historic city that was once a center of Islamic civilization. Their lineup included vocalist Manuel Martínez, guitarist Paco Ventura, and bassist José Miguel Fernández.
Their music blended Andalusian folk with rock elements, which set them apart from more traditional flamenco acts at the time. They released their self-titled debut album in 1980, followed by records like "Andalucía" in 1981 and "Caravana de Recuerdos" in 1983.
One of their notable songs is "Favorita de Un Sultán," which appeared on their 1985 album of the same name. Other tracks like "A Toda Esa Gente" and "Adiós Al Ayer" became part of their catalog. The band continued recording into the 2000s with albums such as "Sin Tiempo" in 2005 and "Llegó el Día" in 2022.
